Embla restaurant offers a contemporary cuisine of Nordic flair by chef Jim Lofdahl. The intimate and sophisticated venue is located on the ground floor of an historical building in the old neighborhood of Sheung Wan, now the elegant, exotic, and hip hearth of Hong Kong.
Area-17 together with Helen Lindman, Embla, owner and sponsor, designed a monochromatic, minimalistic interior design without forgoing the warmth of an environment rich in details. A deep shade of blue holds centre stage, wrapping up clients in a velvety embrace, by contrast enhancing the colors of dishes, the true protagonists of the sensorial experience.
The smoothness of wooden flooring and seating, the rough brown of stone, glares from mirrors and polished copper, the softness of powder-blue leather upholstery, and the impalpability of cotton sheers isolating the interiors from the city create a complex palette of texture, which counterbalances the similarity among the dusty nuances.
Walls are decorated with thematic images either from Nordic sceneries or inspired by food ingredients on the menu. They are supposed to change seasonally to provide variable moods, in tune with the culinary philosophy that follow the natural rhythm of seasons.
