Location: SHANGHAI, China 550 sqm 2014
Client: Zhejiang Dunnu Joint Industrial Co.LTD
Type: Retail

When tasked with the redesign of the Dunnu store in Shanghai, Area-17 understood the many and varied qualities of the brand’s clientele and worked to incorporate them into the design.

Area-17 focused on Dunnu’s female personality: mature, determined, and fulfilled- but still a romantic dreamer. The design of the 600 square meter store is centered on this dichotomy, which emerges from the contrast between architectural and decorative elements.
Smooth, undulating walls finished in stucco define the interior space. Sharp slices of light separate the walls from horizontal surfaces, making them float to emphasize their ethereal consistency. The walls’ sinuous continuity is interrupted by the rigid geometry of vertical partitions, decorated with a linear wooden pattern. The same partitions modulate the entire space as they stand out of the walls and define different areas of the store. The game of opposites continues in the choice of materials and finishes: shiny and matte, light and dark, soft and hard, smooth and textured. These intertwining vibes and sensations accompany the client through the whole shopping experience.

HONG KONG, China 90 sqm 2014

Designed by Area-17 to make the most of the modest proportions, this urban interior has a cozy and nonchalant appeal. The almost industrial atmosphere is warmed up by thoughtfully placed oriental accents. Textures and neutral colors create dynamic interrelations among the clean surfaces of the walls, ceilings, and roof.
