Client: Martinelli Luce SPA

Modena is the new lamp designed by Area-17 for Martinelli Luce, historical Italian design brand.

Modena Lamp has a strong high-tech and contemporary appeal, though it still retains those qualities that transform an object of design into an object of affection. The dichotomy is immediately evident in the materials’ match: Modena always comes in a metal natural finish paired with a graphic color. The diffuser generates a wide light cone, which provides downward diffused lighting. Its lateral puncturing lets filter enough light to soften the transition between shade and brightness, drawing a delicate texture/weft on the metal surface.
Modena exists in three versions:  pendant, floor, and wall lamp. The family’s essence is flexibility. The diffuser rotates 30°-degrees so that it can be aimed in different directions. In the floor and wall version, the diffuser rotates also around its support. The great dynamism makes for an extreme versatile lamp, ideal for residential environment but also public venues of significant dimensions, where the juxtaposition of the same element with subtle differences in orientation produces a sophisticated rhythmic effect.

Modena lamp has received a Special Mention in the Architizer A+Awards 2017 for the Lighting - Decorative category.
